Meet Margarita Lumbreras.
A Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist
I first pursued a Bachelor’s degree in Industrial-Organizational Psychology from the University of Phoenix, but I quickly realized I wanted to dive deeper. I chose to pursue a Master’s in Marriage and Family Therapy from Capella University because I’m drawn to the systemic perspective: the idea that we’re shaped by our environments and relationships. I’ve always been passionate about working with couples and families to support connection, foster healing, and strengthen the bonds that matter most.

Becoming a therapist has been a dream of mine for as long as I can remember. I grew up in a home where emotions and conflict weren’t openly discussed, and that early experience sparked a deep curiosity about human behavior and relationships.
Before becoming a therapist, I worked for the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline. This experience taught me the power of active listening, holding a safe space, and recognizing that what most of us long for is connection. Often, the goal isn’t to “fix” a problem, it’s to feel seen, heard, and supported through it.
Outside of being a therapist, I enjoy spending time with my family, crying and laughing to RomComs, and indulging in delicious food. I’m a huge baseball fan (Go Dodgers!) and love to bake delicious treats!
Who do I work with, and what concerns can we explore together in therapy?
I work with individuals (16+), couples, and families, and my areas of focus include:
-
Relationship and family conflict
-
Parent-child dynamics

Anxiety and depression
-

Can you provide therapy in both English and Spanish?
Yes! As a bilingual therapist, I am proud to offer therapy in both English and Spanish. I am committed to creating a comfortable and inclusive space for Spanish-speaking clients, ensuring that language is never a barrier to receiving compassionate and effective care.
How do I support clients in their healing and growth?
My style is warm, nonjudgmental, and collaborative. I believe that therapy isn’t one-size-fits-all, so I tailor my approach to each client. My approach is integrative, drawing from Narrative Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, EFT, Gottman Therapy, Structural Family Therapy, and other evidence-based modalities.
Ultimately, my goal is to empower you. I believe you are the expert of your own life and I’m here to walk alongside you, whether you’re navigating a major life transition, working to heal your inner child, or seeking more connection in your relationships.
